Southport & Formby Hospital.
We were contacted by Southport & Formby Hospital and asked to propose a plan for updating their wayfinding system. Their existing signage had been implemented many years ago and over time, with all of the changes being made to the hospital, had become obsolete and confusing.
After several meetings with the Trust and a patient led panel we deduced that the new system needed to be simple, easily updated and, as the hospital had several wards for the care of the elderly, dementia friendly.
With this information in hand, our project manager went away and produced a proposal for project that included internal wayfinding, traffic directional signs, site maps and entrance signage. We proposed the implementation of a colour coded wayfinding system, separating the different parts of the hospital into coloured "zones" with a corresponding image. The use of high-contrast colours and larger text would help the visually impaired and dementia patients get around easier and all of the signs would be lettered up in cut vinyl so any future changes can be carrier out quickly and easily.
All external traffic and wayfinding signage was replaced with new modular sign systems to give a cleaner, more modern look.
